National Iranian American Council (NIAC)

The National Iranian American Council (NIAC) is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting greater participation by Iranian-Americans in political and civic life. NIAC advocates for policies that benefit the Iranian-American community and against policies which harm it. Through its "Demystifying Democracy" workshops, the Council works with groups and individuals around the country in a grassroots effort to engage Iranian-Americans in the fundamentals of democratic political participation and to strengthen their numbers at the polls. Finally, NIAC provides an Iranian-American perspective on the issues facing the community (and our country as whole) to the media in order to help counter the prevalence of misinformation about Iran and Iranian Americans.

The project, supported by our foundation, will help address this problem of misinformation. NIAC's U.S.--Iran Media Resources Project serves to provide journalists and the American public with a wealth of resources to help them gain a broader understanding of issues ranging from foreign policy to civil rights to immigration. The project allows NIAC to produce well-informed and well-researched analyses of pertinent political and policy issues. It provides the Council with the opportunity to disseminate this valuable information in print and broadcast media through the publication of policy memos, as well as its participation in interviews and conferences with national television and radio broadcasters.
