Mercy Corps (MC)

Mercy Corps exists to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression by helping people build secure, productive, and just communities. Mercy Corps works amid disasters, conflicts, chronic poverty, and instability to unleash the potential of people who can win against nearly impossible odds.

Mercy Corps has learned that communities recovering from war or social upheaval must be the agents of their own transformation for change to endure. It's only when communities set their own agendas, raise their own resources, and implement programs themselves, that their first successes result in the renewed hope, confidence, and skills to continue development. In newspaper op-ed pages and from speakers' rostrums, Mercy Corps leaders frequently contribute their well-informed insights and opinions on global humanitarian challenges. Recent contributions to the public debate have included thoughts on issues such as Sudan, the Middle East, and the post-9/11 world.
