The Free Gaza Movement

The Free Gaza Movement works to overcome the Israeli siege of Gaza through civil resistance and nonviolent direct action. It seeks to raise international awareness about the prison-like closure of the Gaza Strip and pressure the international community to review its sanctions policy and end its support for continued Israeli occupation. Since August 2008, Free Gaza has organized several sea voyages to the Gaza Strip, directly challenging the Israeli naval blockade. Its ships are the only international vessels to reach Gaza since 1967. The Free Gaza Movement believes that when our governments are silent in the face of massive human rights abuses, we, concerned members of the international community, must take action commensurate with the crisis.

Support from the Caipirinha Foundation is helping Free Gaza to successfully organize its ninth challenge of the siege, which in 2010 will work with Gazan parliamentarians, journalists, human rights workers, and other concerned members of the international community to bring several hundred tons of badly needed humanitarian and reconstruction supplies to Gaza. The Free Gaza Movement will sail to Gaza again and again and again, until the siege is forever shattered and the Palestinian people have free access to the rest of the world.
