Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT)

The Campaign Against Arms Trade is a UK-based, grassroots organization that works to end the international arms trade. The arms trade has a devastating effect on human rights and security as well as on global, regional, and local economic development. CAAT uses research and education, media work, lobbying, demonstrations, nonviolent direct action, and local organization to create a strong and vibrant campaign.

We have provided valuable support for two of CAAT's campaigns, "Stop Arming Israel" and "Control BAE." The Stop Arming Israel coalition was established in July 2006 in response to Israel's attack on Southern Lebanon and its ongoing, illegal, and oppressive occupation of the Palestinian Territories. The coalition campaigns for an arms embargo on the region and an end to the political support of Israel implicit in the UK Government's willingness to conduct arms trade with the country. The Control BAE campaign aims to re-open the Serious Fraud Office corruption inquiry into BAE Systems' arms deals with Saudi Arabia. This inquiry was curtailed by the UK government in December 2006 following immense pressure from BAE Systems and the Saudi regime.
